Burglary / Robbery
Robbery is the act of depriving someone of their personal property using violence, intimidation or force, whether the object taken was from the person or their immediate surroundings. Robbery charges can be upgraded to other charges, such as armed or aggravated robbery, and include a weapon's charge if a weapon had been used during the robbery.
Burglary includes home invasions, breaking and entering with intent to commit a felony, and trespassing.
There are various punishments which are based on the value of the stolen property as well as the nature of the incident, which include: imprisonment, probation, restitution (restoring the worth of the property to its said owner), fines, court appearances, counseling. These punishments can increase or decrease based on additional factors such as past criminal record, the attitude of the community and the court towards the type of crime, media attention to the case, and other mitigating or aggravating circumstances.
